gcc-3.8 is referenced on the net in posts early in 2005. Looks like the latest MinGW release
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/MinGW/Base/gcc/Version4/gcc-4.6.2-1/
has gcc-4.6. The latest MinGW release could assist in a variety of areas including this one.
