Kgdb??? The Linux kernel debugger?? Since the kernel is all C, how can
you use templates in it? 
Forgive me if I am missing something!!
I have certainly done some debugging using _gdb_ on templated code, but
it can be somewhat confusing (rather like template compile errors!), but
certainly possible.
