Thanks for your help. We have two differences:
1. I called my file "Jamfile" while you called yours
"config.jam"
2. I did not pass the '-f' option while you did.
When I invoke jam as you did with the "-f" option, the
SHELL command works.
I will read up on the "-f" option which seems to be
required.
