Subject: [boost] [asio] confused by multiple socket flavors

There is a stream_socket_service and a ip::tcp::socket
class, with almost the same member functions. I do
understand that the first "is_a" service while the
second "has_a" service.
Is there any rationale beyond just having both?
When would I want to use which one?
Do I have overlooked something in the documentaion?
Any hints appreciated.
