Doing:
local UNIT_TEST_PROPERTIES = <lib>../../test/build/test_exec_monitor

run select_holder.cpp

: $(UNIT_TEST_PROPERTIES)
;
Is not the same as what does work:
run select_holder.cpp
<lib>../../test/build/test_exec_monitor
: # command-line args
: # input files
: $(UNIT_TEST_PROPERTIES)
;
You tried to put the dependency in the requirements, instead of the sources.
