Well, the version I got from "the horse's mouth" wasn't that long.
Basically, some of his family really wanted to call him Bill. Others really
wanted to call him P.J. (I don't recall if P.J. stands for anything). He was
officially named P.J., but enough people called him "Bill" that it stuck.
