sockets aka tcp aka network streams

So, I read this thread

And I read this document

And there seem to be a few points of contention, but not so much that
someone couldn't go bang out a prototype for everyone to tear apart.

Has some one done this?  I did not find it.

I've got nothing better to do this weekend...
