I'd suggest that you should just wait for "a new version" that 
would hopefully allow you to have something along the lines of:

  #ifdef BROKEN_SOLARIS
                            thread::attr()
                              .set_scope( PTHREAD_SCOPE_SYSTEM )
                              . // see below 
  #endif
  new_thread( routine /*, arg(s)...*/ )
  .
  .
  .
